Maple Leaf CEO Feels Good About Progress As Lastest Recall Announced!

bac_listeria1Toronto Star: The CEO of Maple Leaf Foods Inc. says he “feels good” about the progress in restoring consumer confidence following last year’s massive recall of packaged meats after some were found to be tainted with deadly bacteria.

Although Maple Leaf posted a significant loss in the three months ended Dec. 31, chief executive Michael McCain said today the company was making “material progress” in winning consumers back to the fold with improved food safety procedures.

“We feel good that we’ve made very material progress in our volume, we feel good that we’ve made great progress in recovering consumer confidence and our corporate reputation, we feel good that we’ve built these food safety standards as rigorous as they are … into our supply chain and our products,” McCain said today in an interview with The Canadian Press.

bspcommentI’m glad he feels so good because you really have to wonder how much confidence Maple Leaf Foods enjoys with today’s announcement that they have recalled hundreds of cases of wieners that did not complete all testing for the listeria bacteria. Hmmm… so much for restoring confidence in Maple Leaf Foods.
